Chapter Eleven

Kaki

Kade was furious. He seemed to be angrier every day I saw him. We’d discovered that Lilibeth had managed to fool the guards at the prison she was in. I don’t know how she did it. No one did. But it made this war a little more complicated. She had managed to convince the guards that she was dead. The prison governor, Gordon Sharman, said he’d seen her body. She had no pulse, wasn’t breathing, and was definitely over.

“Ettore had to have something to do with it,” Anghus said as we sat around the Devil’s Advocates compound.

“Or Anubis,” Lilith said. “Anubis would have been able to hold onto her spirit until they had her body.”

“Where was her body sent?” Scout asked.

Kade sighed. “Gordon said that it was sent to the coroner. It was all completely normal.” He scrubbed his hands up over his face. “It’s not Gordon’s fault, but fuck, I want to kill him.”

“I know, man. We are just back on the back foot again,” Anghus sighed.

It felt like every time we started to get in front of Ettore, something happened that pushed us to the back again. It was frustrating. But then again, I guess that was war. It was all frustrating.

“So, what do we do with this information? Is Lilibeth being alive and free have anything to do with us killing Blaise? Does it stop it?” Nevada asked.

Kade glanced around the room and shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know. My biggest worry is that Lilibeth will find a way to infiltrate, and we will see more deaths happen.”

“But we know that she was suggesting it; we can be aware. If the Wild Claw Pack doesn’t allow anyone they don’t know in, then they should be fine.”

Kade shook his head. “It’s not that simple, Nevada. The Pack, and all of us, will never turn away someone in need. If she comes disguised as someone that was perhaps an omega or even an alpha that needed help, we wouldn’t know if it was a trick or someone that needed help. Look at Nether and Kaijan; they could fool all of us.”

Nevada sighed and nodded his head. “Can we kill her too?”

“That might be the only answer. Blaise was supposed to be an easy kill; he has no powers, but now that he is with Lilibeth, it puts a spanner in the works,” Kade sighed.

“What happened to Argral?” Butler asked. Argral was Lilibeth’s mate and had been helping Lilibeth and Ettore. He was also Butler’s great-grandfather.

“He is still in prison. Gordon made sure of it,” Kade responded.

“So, does that mean she is just leading Blaise on? Is she using Blaise for a body?” Anghus asked.

Kade hummed. “That’s possible. So, we need to work out what the hell is Lilibeth’s angle. What does she stand to get out of helping Ettore and Blaise?”

“That’s what I don’t understand. It’s something I’ve always been confused by,” I said. “Why was she helping Ettore. The man raped her mother; he wanted nothing to do with Lilibeth.
